Convention 2015 Swaps ~ Butterfly Curvy Keepsake Boxes

Today we’re sharing our swaps for the 2015 Gold Coast Convention: Butterfly Curvy Keepsake Boxes.

These cute boxes were inspired by Erica Cerwin’s lovely little butterfly boxes here.

       

To keep things simple, we worked with two main colours: Basic Black and Sahara Sand (in addition to Whisper White). The colours were drawn from the Designer Series Papers used to decorate the sides of the keepsake boxes: Back to Black DSP (which is 50% off on the Retirement List) and Something Borrowed DSP. Both packs of paper have lovely floral pattern papers which were used on the majority of the boxes, though other variations are pictured below.

 

 

  
 

To add a little sparkle and elegance, glimmer paper and vellum were used to create the butterflies, cut out using the Butterfly Thinlits. The butterflies are stuck either side of the handle on the box which means that you can easily open and close the box without ruining the pretty butterflies. Awesome, huh? We’ve also added cute little trails behind each butterfly using rhinestones/pearls. Keep scrolling to find out how we created the boxes.

Instructions

1. Cut two Curvy Keepsake box bases using the Thinlit die.
2. Fold and burnish all the score lines using a bone folder.
3. Cut two pieces of coordinating DSP using the Curvy Keepsake Thinlit. Be sure to take notice of the the direction your pattern is facing (i.e. if it is a floral pattern ensure the flowers are facing up).
4. Adhere DSP pieces to the corresponding cardstock pieces using liquid glue (liquid glue is preferable over snail as you can shift the DSP so it is perfectly aligned with the cardstock).
5. Using the Butterfly Thinlits, cut out the medium butterfly in glimmer paper and the small butterfly in vellum.
6. Adhere the small vellum butterfly to the centre of the medium glimmer butterfly using liquid glue or sticky strip. Be sure to hold the vellum butterfly in place for a few seconds so it is properly adhered to the glimmer paper.
7. Cut the butterflies in half, making a vertical cut along the body of both butterflies.
8. Adhere each butterfly half either side of the slit/closure of the Curvy Keepsake box.
9. Add a trail of rhinestones or pearls beneath the butterfly.
10. Assemble the box and admire your finished Butterfly Curvy Keepsake Box.
